Newzik is compatible with all standard Bluetooth page-turning foot pedals. To know more about your pedal’s specificities, please refer to your pedal’s manual and/or your pedal manufacturer’s website.

Note: Have a look at our comprehensive review of the best page turning pedals available on the market to choose yours!

I. Activate your pedal

For most Bluetooth pedal models:

  • Turn on your pedal
  • Pair the pedal to your device from the Settings app (Go to Settings > Bluetooth and click on your pedal in the list of available devices)
  • You can now use it to turn your pages in Newzik!

Note: if your pedal is connected to your device but still does not turn pages, check that the right mode is activated on your pedal (please refer to the manufacturer’s instructions to learn how to switch between modes).

For Airturn pedals in Airdirect mode:

  • Turn on your pedal and make sure it is in Airdirect Mode (Mode 1)
  • Make sure Bluetooth is turned on on your device
  • Go the general settings of Newzik, click on “Bluetooth Pedal” on choose “Airturn”
  • Click on the name of the pedal when it appears and click “Done"

For MIDI pedals (iRig Blueboard, AirTurn BT200 S-6, etc.):

  • Turn on your pedal
  • Pair the pedal to your device from the Settings app (Go to Settings > Bluetooth and click on your pedal in the list of available devices)
  • Go the general settings of Newzik, click on “Bluetooth Pedal” on choose “Midi Pedal”
  • Turn on “Use MIDI page turn”
  • Click on “Assign” next to the event you wish to assign, and click on a button on your pedal to assign it

Note: If your pedal is an iRig Blueboard, please note that you need to download the dedicated iRig Blueboard app on the AppStore and pair your pedal through it

II. Foot Pedals and iOS Virtual Keyboard

Most Bluetooth foot pedals are recognized as external keyboards by the iPad or iPhone, which prevents the virtual keyboard from appearing. To make it pop up, follow the instructions below corresponding to your pedal model:

  • AirTurn BT-200, BT-200 S-2, BT-105, etc.: press the red power button.
  • AirTurn PED Pro: press the keyboard button on the PED device.
  • PageFlip Firefly, Butterfly or Dragonfly: press the currently selected mode button (button with the blinking red light below or next to it).
  • IK Multimedia iRig BlueTurn: Press and hold the left (“up” arrow) footswitch for three seconds.

III. Bluetooth Pedal Troubleshooting

If your pedal is not turning the pages when pressed, please check that:

  • The pedal is charged
  • The pedal is paired with your iOS device
  • The right mode is activated on your pedal (please refer to your pedal’s instruction manual to learn how to switch between modes)
